Meet our amazing teachers
MICHELE DORSEY received her Pilates teacher training from The Pilates Center of Boulder, Colorado. She graduated from their rigorous certification program in 2000. After opening her own studio in 2000, she joined partners Pam Woodson and Susanne Staehr in opening The Pilates Place in 2001. Pam and Michele operate the studio in its present location at Smith’s Plaza. In 2007 Michele Dorsey, was one of the first Pilates Instructors in the country to pass the Pilates Method Alliance comprehensive national certification, prior to the publication of their study guide, granting her “Gold Certified Pilates Intstructor” accreditation.
In May, 2009 Michele completed her final certification in Level I GYROTONIC® training and in 2010 she is pursuing her Level II GYROTONIC® certification. Also in 2010, Michele was invited to present mat classes for Pilates Instructors attending the prestigious Pilates Method Alliance Conference’s 10th Annual Education Conference in Long Beach, California.
PAM WOODSON moved to Jackson, Wy in 1984 after graduating from Southern Illinois University with a B.S. in Forestry. While there she also danced and was a member of the womens cross-country and track teams.
After moving to Jackson, she began performing and teaching dance at Dancers Workshop where she was a member of the Three Rivers Dance Company. Her love of dance gave her many opportunities to perform in the Rocky Mountain region and ultimately led her to Pilates. She also taught aerobics and weight training classes and was ACE and IDEA certified.
In 1997, she was introduced to the Pilates method. After entering the teacher training program in 2000, she received her Pialtes certification from the Pilates Center in Boulder, CO in 2001. She and business partner, Michele Dorsey, then opened their studio, The Pilates Place, in Jackson, Wy in 2001. Pam continues to learn and deepen her teaching through continuing education workshops and attending the Pilates Method Alliance conferences. She teaches the pre and post-natal classes at the studio and joined Michele this past November to teach Pilates in Italy at Cascina Papaveri. Pam truly believes that Pilates is life-changing and can be used in all that we do.
KRISTIN PAINTER moved to Jackson Wyoming in 1996. She began practicing Pilates in 2003 and felt that Pilates balanced her body and challenged her to initiate her movement from a deeper place. Kristin attended a workshop about techniques on teaching mat and decided to change her career and become a Pilates instructor. She earned her full Pilates teacher training certification from Streamline Body Pilates in Salt Lake City, Utah in April 2010. Kristin has attended workshops on Feldenkrais Method and Teaching Teaser in Salt Lake City, Utah as part of her continuing education. She also attended the 10th Annual Pilates Method Alliance conference in Long Beach, Ca. in November 2010. While there she focused on workshops that address special needs, such as Pelvic Floor Dysfunction, Scoliosis, and Hip Connection: Advance Concepts, Stability, and Support. Kristin fees that The Pilates Method encourages one to find balance, strength, and health in movement which transfers to all aspects of one’s life.
HILARY SMITH spent the summer of 2011 in Denver, taking full advantage of the numerous opportunities for continuing education in Pilates, with some of the most renowned and respected Instructors in the World! This month she heads south again, returning to McMurdo station in Antarctica, for an amazing 5th season. She plans to join us for our next trip to Italy for Pilates and Italian Cuisine in 2012!
TINA ROBERTS will be teaching part-time in our studio during the ski season. She will also be coaching for JH Ski Club with the Alpine Program. Tina is a grad of Dartmouth College in New Hampshire, where she ski raced during her college career. She earned her Pilates teacher training from the Pilates Training Institute and fulfilled her apprenticeship requirements at Steamboat Pilates in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Pilates played a large role in Tina’s training throughout her racing career, and she attributes much of her success to the strength, awareness, and connectivity she gained through Pilates. In seeking somewhere she could explore her passion for skiing, while continuing her education in Pilates and involvement in a fabulous community, Tina moved to Jackson in the fall of 2010 and it was a perfect fit! We know you will enjoy her highly motivated style of teaching!
